Our History

From 19th century private estates, The Garrison has
evolved into prominent social and recreational centers of activity for the community and
surrounding region. The Garrison’s first public incarnation was as Bill Brown’s
Physical Training Farm, a destination health and relaxation resort for men, opened in 1915
by New York’s Commissioner of Boxing, Bill Brown. In around 1960, the property opened as
The Garrison Country Club, through the efforts of the same Osborn family that helped
found Highlands Country Club.

Today, Chris Davis continues this legacy of community stewardship as the owner of The
Garrison. Active in community and conservation advocacy in the Hudson Highlands for many years, Chris continues to give his time, energy and
resources to a variety of regional and environmental endeavors. Among other activities,
Chris served for many years as Board Chair of the Hudson Highlands Land Trust, a
dedicated steward of the Hudson River Valley. His goal for The Garrison property is to continue to evolve the land and assets into an economically sustainable and
highly valued business that balances social, dining and athletic offerings with community
stewardship, land conservation, and environmental best practices.
